NATIONAL BUREAU OF STATISTICS/ FEDERAL MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATIVE SURVEY ON NATIONAL AGRICULTURE SAMPLE SURVEY (NASS), 2010/2011

Agriculture is a major driver of economic growth in Nigeria.  About 70% of the Nigerian rural population is involved in agricultural production.  In 2010 agriculture contributed about 40% to the GDP.  Also, agriculture sector is a fulcrum to the national food security by providing the largest proportion of the national total food consumption requirement.

 

The survey was conducted at the household level and establishment level (corporate farm), this composed of all agricultural activities; crop, livestock, poultry and fisheries.  National Agicultural Sample Survey (NASS) is a collaborative survey between the National Bureau of Statistics and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and rural Development (FMA&RD). The survey was funded by (FMA&RRD).  The result is intended to monitor some of the government policies in agriculture (Special Programme for Food Security), assist reseachers and academia.
